Spain in 1492

Hello, everyone!

You already know that the year 1492 was a very important one. It is the year that marks the transition from the Middle Ages (Renaissance) to the Modern Age, an age of discovery and expansion.
Three important things happened in Spain that year, under the reign of los Reyes Católicos, Isabel de Castilla and Fernando de Aragón:

- The last muslim kingdom of Granada (Reino Nazarí de Granada) was finally conquered and the king Boabdil surrendered, giving the keys of the city to los Reyes Católicos. Watch this  here.

- The Jews were expelled from Spain. Isabel and Fernando wanted to have a unified Christian kingdom, so the Jews could either convert to Christianity (and be under the constant supervision of the Inquisition) or leave the country. Watch it here.

- Christopher Columbus discovered America. At the beginning, everyone thought he had reached the Indies. Some parts of the Indies were still unexplored by Europeans, and los Reyes Católicos hoped to find new territories there to expand. Little did they know that Columbus' discovery would change history forever.
Las Capitulaciones de Santa Fe was the name of the document that was signed by los Reyes Católicos and Christopher Columbus where they agreed to give him nobility titles and 10% of the riches found in the new territories, if his voyage succeeded.
