HEAT AND LIGHT MIND MAPS

Here I upload the mindmaps we have done in groups in class. Remember that doing mind maps such as these is a wonderful way to revise.
I hope they are useful!

HEAT EXPERIMENTS!

Hello everyone!

Today we have done some experiments to learn about heat.

First, we have mixed water and salt until the salt was completely dissolved. This is called HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURE. Then, we were wondering whether everything would evaporate, or only the water. To find out, we have poured some water on a tray and we are going to wait for a few days until it evaporates. I'll post the result when we have it!!

HERE'S THE RESULT!

Our next experiment was called THE SNOWMAN'S COAT. I told you the story of Claire and Peter, who were playing with a snowman one day. Suddenly, the sun came out and they had to go back home because it was lunch time and they didn't want their snowman to melt! Claire had an idea: they could put a coat on the snowman so that it wouldn't melt so fast. Peter thought that was a crazy idea... coats keep you WARM!! So the snowman would melt faster!!
To find out who was right, we took two ice cubes and put them on two different plastic plates. Then, we put one of them inside a sock or glove, and we waited.

After an hour or so, we took the ice cube out of the sock and, guess what?? It was bigger!! The ice cube WITHOUT the sock had melted faster. Why did this happen??

The last experiment we have done is called CONDUCTORS AND INSULATORS. We wanted to find out which material is the best THERMAL CONDUCTOR: metal, wood or plastic. To find out, we put butter on one end of the spoons, and we submerged the other end of the spoons in boiling-hot water.

After some time, we could see how the butter in the metal spoon was melting faster. In some groups it even fell on the water!

You worked very well as a group and even got yourselves a positive!! Congratulations!!
